From spectacular stage machinery to great illusionistic perspectives of Baroque theatres, from the lighting experiments to contemporary multimedia innovations, Set Design has always been the ultimate visual counterpoint of the musical component. This specifically devised master’s degree aims to provide historical, critical and design tools to be able to conceive and implement set design projects for musical theatre. The course entails both theoretical lessons and workshops led by internationally renowned scenographers. There are also internships and assistantships at associated theaters and festivals such as: Arena of Verona, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro La Fenice of Venice, Rossini Opera Festival of Pesaro, Macerata Opera Festival, Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago, Real Theater of Madrid, Teatro dell’Opera of Rome, Teatro Regio of Turin, Festival of Aix en Provence, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Valle d’Itria Festival in Martina Franca and many others, both in Italy and abroad.
